"The best restaurant in these parts is Café Sonoita...the menu shows serious culinary intent, and the kitchen knows how to translate that intent into reality...pies taste like somebody's mother just set them to cool on the windowsill...Café Sonoita also boasts an appealing, fairly priced wine list."

The Arizona Republic - Food & Wine, October 15, 2003

Welcome to Canela
Canela is a charming chef owned & operated bistro, located within the wine growing region of Southeastern Arizona. The building's faded brick facade quickly gives way to the comfort and beauty found within. Open since September 2005, Canela has become a destination restaurant for locals and tourists alike.

Owners John Hall & Joy Vargo are delighted to introduce a classical bistro to the 'Mountain Empire Communities' of Sonoita, Elgin and Patagonia. The ever-changing menu features locally produced foods & wine, local & regional artwork are displayed throughout the restaurant, and regional music softly plays throughout the evenings.

John & Joy have many years of experience working with talented chefs in Tucson, Chicago, Seattle, New Orleans, Montana and Colorado. In addition, John & Joy have formal training from New England Culinary Institute in Montpelier, Vermont.
