Preserve Reduces Schedule for Winter Months

HEREFORD, AZ…October 4, 2006…The Nature Conservancy’s Ramsey Canyon Preserve will be closed to the public on Tuesdays and Wednesdays during the winter months of November and December 2006 and January 2007.

The two-day per week closure comes during three months of low visitation and allows preserve staff to catch up on noisy, messy projects that disrupt the visitor experience.

Through October, preserve hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily, with guided walks at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday mornings. On November 1, hours shift to 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Thursdays through Mondays. Normal hours resume on February 1, 2007. Guided walks begin again in March.

Fall visitors to Ramsey Canyon Preserve will enjoy a new kids’ trail guide. Season color displays begin in late October as bigtooth maple and Arizona sycamore trees prepare to drop their leaves.

Admission at Ramsey Canyon is $5 or $3 for Conservancy members or Cochise County residents, with ages under 16 free. There is no admission charge the first Saturday of every month. During these months, a paid preserve admission will be good for two rather than the usual one week. The preserve is closed Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s days.
